4th Year Required and Elective Rotations
Ophthalmology Clinic – Jacksonville (OPH E 1J)
This course is only offered for a 4-week option.
Students will be involved with outpatient care in the Ophthalmology clinic under the supervision of attending physicians. They will be responsible for history-taking, examination of patients and performing some non-invasive tests needed during an eye exam under supervision of faculty. They will also participate in the departmental educational lecture series. The course objectives are to learn to perform a thorough patient evaluation including an eye exam, to interpret basic ophthalmic tests, and to formulate a differential diagnosis.
Some of the activities they will be involved with, under supervision of faculty, include:
- History taking – present and past history
- Slit-lamp examination
- Intraocular pressure check
- Confrontation field testing
- Pupil exam
- Color vision testing
- Visual acuity testing
- Optical Coherence Tomography testing and interpretation
- Interpretation of visual field testing
- Interpretation of Fluorescein Angiography testing
The students will be evaluated by each supervising faculty, based on their performance in each of the categories above.
